Suggestion......We all meet at NERD and have K~ cook up one of her delish-dish masterpiece for us!!!!!!!!! .......McK's.....LOL
Nice amps. Give us a little info on the system. Car/subs/head unit, etc etc.
ok here goes...
99 Passat
Eclipse 5423 head
Focal 165k2p for the fronts
Focal 27V2 for a sub
Presently running a Phoenix Gold 500.4 bridged to the fronts, Phoenix Gold 600.2 on the sub.
Also in the mix is a PG EQ215, PG AX406 crossover, PG DD5 for crossover/eq/fan power. PG basscube sitting in the car but not hooked up.
Stinger Helix RCA's. Was using the bullets but far too thick and the ends fall off!
Stinger HPM 1/0 gauge to the trunk...split to 4 gauge for the amps. HPM fused dist. block and HPM ground block.
Fiberglass door pods are almost finished...passenger side is done but not covered (thinking neoprene)...driver's need to be re-done as it isn't aiming where it should.
Currently working on a spherical sub enclosure...
As for the new amps....the Helix HXA 400 (on top) will go to the comps, HXA 1000 to the sub...everything else will stay the same... at least for the time being! There is a Eclipse Ti 12" that is calling my name though.
Wanna know more?!?
:biggrin2:
Is that all? I thought you'd have better. :newnice: :newnice: :newnice: Let me know what the Db is once you get it hooked up.
Used to really be into car audio when I was in my later teens. I had a Lincoln Towncar with 3 Kicker Solo-Baric subs, Phoenix Gold amps (can't remember the series, ZX-350 I think running my interiors) Infinity Kappa interiors all the way around, phoenix gold trunk mount E.Q., with an alpine mini-disc head unit. Had other stereos from time to time but that was the best I've ever had. Got my old Fosgate DSM punch 100 on ebay right now. I hate to see it go, one of the best amps I ever owned. Not like the crap that they make nowadays.
BTW: I hate to see that nice stereo being put into a passat.

By the time it is done, it will be time for a new car. Picking up the new amps gave me an excuse to put together a little system for my sister. She'll be getting the Ti500.4...half going to a set of Helix 5 1/4" components for the front and the rear bridged to a 12" Eclipse sub...
I kinda like the idea of never really "finishing" the car... it definately keeps me busy...build build build! I'd rather take the time to learn how to do something (fiberglass, etc) than pay someone to do it for me...sure it may take me 10 times as long to get it done but 1. I have the satisfaction of doing it myself and 2. if it ever breaks I know how it went together in the first place!
BTW no idea if I will ever get it metered... I'm more of "kick in the back" bass fan as opposed to "bowel moving" boom...
If you could have seen our faces when my Focal 27k severed itself from the surround...let's just say I wasn't too happy with Focal at the time. Good people to deal with though...they certainly go out of their way to please the customer when they need to! On the flip side they are french....
Mini-disc? Always been intrigued by it and was always so tempted to try it but by the time I was able to "splurge" it seemed to have vanished. Did you like it?
Any chance that was a ZX450? 4 channel rated at 50-75 watts but put out close to 110 a channel? The ZX's are what I dreamed of as a young teen... I remember when Tweeter used to be in our local mall...carried PG and McIntosh...first time I saw the white ZX's I was in love! Sure they McIntosh's were cool with the blue VU meters but the ZX's had plexiglass windows, gold circuit board that you could see, fan cut-out in the case and the shape! This is the primary reason I eventually bought the Titanium series...sure 2 generations later but it still had all the same properties as the amps I had fallen in love with so many years ago...sans the gold plated circuit board. And yes I presently tuck the new Helix's in every night!
In case you can't tell I'm a little bit of a chatterbox!
The ZX's were definately bad ass. You would've liked the matching 20 band E.Q. mounted in the middle of the amps. An old friend of mine had a pimped out caprice classic on chrome with 8 12" Kicker comps and 2 phoenix amps imbedded in the trunk with plexi covering the tops. He was the guy I always wanted to be like. Had everything and wasn't even 21 yet. Until he went to jail for drug distribution and lost everything. I hear what your saying about the fabrication aspect. I could wire anything but when it came to fabricating trunk panels, in dash e.q. casing, component speaker housings, etc. Had to pay to get it done. Always wanted to learn though. So your sis is getting your hand-me-downs huh? I used to do the same thing with my girlfriends. Once I upgraded, they got the old stuff. (which still pumped) We're on the same page when it comes to sound clarity. I always hated the cars that bumped real loud but couldn't hear the vocals. I could go from Spice1 to Pink Floyd and produce sound that would make you shiver. Especially on strong acid. I always loved the mini-discs. Got started on those back in the day before mp3's and recordable c.d.'s. It was nice just to burn all my buddies music without having to buy the c.d. myself. I still have my console recorder in my intertainment center.
Yeah my sister is getting some of the hand me downs... for X-mas I got her a 3volt Eclipse deck (not hand-me-down)... the Helix components I got for her kinda helped seal the deal for the amps. Personally I am a fan of a metal tweeter but most people can't stand it (or don't have the capability to soothe the peaks) so I opted for the soft dome Helix's for her... Compared these to the PG Ti Elites/Morel Hybrid Ovation and they were very comparable at a much cheaper price tag. It also dawned on me that I have storage bins filled with fuse blocks, wiring and other assorted crap that is just collecting dust. Thought I might as well put it to a good cause!
Clarity/quality of sound is my primary interest. Pretty easy and cheap to make a "boom box"...takes a lot more effort and money to try and acheive realistic sound. That's part of the reason I am eye a different sub...slight motor noise in the 27v2 at higher volume...not bottoming out though...not to mention it is lacking a tad in the bottom end...would make a phenomenal mid bass driver. I'll admit it I'm a snob!
Get back into car audio... we can flood the forum with assorted reviews
