View Full Version : Soundtrack of your life...
If you had to pick 10 songs (+/-) that would appear on the "soundtrack of your life" what would they be? You can include "why" if you feel like doing so...another "just for funner."

Blinded by the Light. Manfred Mann's Earth Band, but Springsteen wrote it. He covered it later to. Or mabey just performed it since it think it violates a law of physics or something if you cover a song by another band but you wrote the song in the first place.

I'm still trying to figure out the soundtrack of my life. All I knew was the Springsteen version was a cover. Didn't know he was the one who wrote it, or who the original artist was. I Googled it cause I got curious and the first link I clicked on gave me the info. Google can make anybody sound like an expert. Even me. It's sad, because I'm an old Jersey boy too and I can't stand his music either.

My friends came up with 3 songs for everybody. One that represents how your life really is, one that represents how you'd like it to be, and maybe how your life was..I don't recall.
Anyway, this song was picked for my "the way life really is" so it should probably be included in my soundtrack.
Melissa Etheridge - ALL AMERICAN GIRL
As an example, one of my friend's song "how he'd like it to be" was Rush - Prime Mover.
4. Romeo & Juliet - Dire Straits
6. Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison
7. True Companion - Marc Cohn
8. American Pie - Don McLean
9. Thunder Road - Bruce Springsteen

Yeah, but you at least have to indulge me with the other 5!!!! :P
Come on!
Thx, BTW!

3 ) Garbage - Fix Me Now - current health status
4 ) Nine Inch Nails - All the Love in the World - gee, whadda ya think?
5 ) U2 - Acrobat - younger years
6 ) Tom Petty - Wildflowers - overall and i'm pagan
7 ) Timbuk3 - The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades -end of high school, a bit of beginning/ending of college
8 ) Garbage - Cup of Coffee - a couple of breakups, closer to one in particular
9 ) Queen - The Show Must Go On - some rpg stuff and HS on stage stuff/winteguard...and overall
10 ) Jethro Tull - Songs From the Wood - i'm pagan
11 ) Dobie Gray - Drift Away -the way I feel about music, and I am a musician, even if I don't play much these days

You suck, Kara! I saw this thread right after you started it and it has killed the productivity in all other areas of my life since!
I simply could not get to 10. My sincere apologies. Every time I attepted a cut, more tunes came to mind than I was cutting! Please also forgive my long-winded explanations.
1. "Sweet Jane" - The Velvet Underground. This is the band that started "alternative" rock. All of you youngins' that think it began in '89 in Seattle, need some true history lessons. Put together by Andy Warhol for entertainment at his home parties. Ther is an almost on to one ratio between the number of albumns sold and the number of new bands started.
2. "Lil' Red Rooster" - The Rolling Stones, although every blues musician in history has covered it.
3. "Thirteen" - Big Star. Power-Pop kings of the 70s. A true alternative rock band, during the dark times of disco. Singer-songwriter, Alex Chilton is the hero to nearly every acoustic musician since. Sidenote: During the first season of "That 70's Show," the theme, as well as the music, every time a character turned on the radio, was by Big Star. There was a falling out somewhere, and it has all been cut on the re-runs.
4. "I Will Follow" - U2. The best rock and roll song ever recorded.
5. "Pictures of Matchstick Men" - Camper Von Beethoven. After dropping the killer fiddle player, they later became Cracker.
6. "Spirit of the Radio" - Rush. They just had to be included, and it is a great song!
7. "You are the Everything" - REM. Haunting and sweet. Always reminded me of my grandmother, whom I loved very much, and miss tremendously.
8. "Misguided Angel" - The Cowboy Junkies. By switching the sex roles, this song made me realize how strongly I wanted to feel for the woman I would marry. (Fifteen years before we met.)
9. "Baby Plays Around" - Elvis Costello. Any guy that has ever loved a woman that did not love back, can get a tear form this one.
10. "When I Was a Child" - Todd Snider. All about the ways growing up screws you.
11. "Things" - Paul Westerberg. Former leader of the great pop group The Replacements. Paul is a dedicated follower of Alex Chilton, but can really rock too. This is a sad song about what you do and don't want to tell the woman you love, even though you know you have to.
12. "Night Swimming" - REM. For those early college years when, "I'm not sure all these peole understand."
13. "True Romance" - Arthur Dodge. A little known, but outstanding musician. If you can get a hold of any of his albumns, with his band, The horsefeathers, you won't be let down. This song is another version of the angst descibed in my #10.
14. "Waited All My Life." - Todd Snider. The night I met the woman I married, I played this song and swore that I would sing it at my wedding. I did.
