I just got this boa as a rescue. (If you want to read the whole saga, go here- http://www.redtailboa.net/forums/showthread.php?t=14287&page=1&pp=10
The previous owner's girlfriend (Lora) and her mom brought it down to Rockford from Janesville, WI- about an hour drive. They were *very* nice people, and we ended up hanging out in my front yard for a while, just chatting and letting the snake enjoy the fresh air. Lora said her boyfriend kept telling her to be careful with it, that it was mean because it hadn't been handled, etc. Yeah, right! They brought it in the tank it had been housed in, and I reached in carefully and stroked its back, and got no response. So I petted it a little more, and it barely moved. So I picked it up, with no problems, draped it over my shoulder, and stood there while it checked everything out. Very nice snake! When I brought it inside, I took a few quick pics and probed. it. I've only probed a few, but from that and the tail shape, I'm pretty sure this is a female- anyone else care to guess? Gorgeous snake, too. That tail makes me want to think it's anery, but I just can't convince myself that I'm that lucky. What do you guys think? She's about 6 feet, maybe 6 1/2, and I'd guess around 10 pounds. She could stand to gain a little, but she's not skin and bones by any means. She was too curious and active to get any really good pics, but here's what I have.

Tail end- anery? Or just really light? There is NO pink on this snake, and no red in the tail.

I tried to get a head shot, but she was too interested in the camera.

Deffinitely not an anery, to be an anery it would have to have no red at all. And i see quite a bit of red in the tail.

also, it's very hard to tell, but to me the thickness behind the vent makes it look like a male (I could most definately be wrong!)...How are the spurs...claws or knubs?...

*Very* tiny spurs, almost not visible. I see what you mean by the bulge behind the vent, but the pic makes it stand out more than usual. She has a very short, strongly tapered tail compared to my known males, which is what makes me suspect it's a female.
