Makasar vs. Sulawesi

OK retic freaks, is there a real, noticeable difference between the island locality retics? Makasar, Sulawesi, Jumbaliyah or whatever else? They all look normal to me pretty much, though some are much better looking than others...
So whats the story on them?

The big one they found in 1913 or whenever it was, was from right around Makasar. So there dubbed as the biggest of the big

If Makasar is ON Sulawesi, why are they referred to as different locales? It seems it would be easier to just call them all Sulawesi, seems how that's what they all are.
