Hello,
I am interested in getting into monitors and I was wondering what would be a good begginer lizard. I was looking at the savanna but I don't know. for those who have experience with monitors what do you feel is a good starter, I really appreciate your opinions.

thanks

I would say Ackie (for a smaller species) or Argus for a somewhat larger one. NERD breeds some great Argus monitors ;)

I'd second that - Ackies & Argus are both great, hardy species to work with!

We have some argus monitors down at Zoo Creatures now. They're pretty friendly when they're not trying to eat you. Just kidding they're real nice.

I say Argus if you have the room and ackies if you dont I truly think you cant go wrong with any Oz monitor with the exception of a Lacie or Perentie which are cool but definetly advanced speecies and more then willing to give out free trips to the ER

Args and ackies are all good, but if you can find true ch or cb established blackthroats, they're real good imo. Might wanna stay with Args/acks tho cause u're like gaurrenteed CBB, Blackthroats, you're often dealing with imports even the "cbb" ones are imports a lot of times. But if u can find an established BT, I like them much better than acks.

I'm a beginner too!
i just got a nile monitor and its great. to me they hardly bite.
P.S don't pick up a monitor if you didn't feed it the day before because they will bite

I'd say Salvator, Indicus or Melinus, or Dumerilii...never start with tree dwellers like Beccarii or Prasinus.
