*LOL*...The "genetic stripes" that most people refer to,that are less expensive, are considered recessive.(though there are some lines that have proven to be non-recessive, the most common are the "Kahl recessives".) The Jungle mutation has proven to be a variably expressed "co-dominant" genetic anomoly, that produces a phenotypically different homozygous form, when two expressive gene carriers are bred together.(this is what quantifies it as "co-dominant".)..."Harlequin" is the name of a bloodline that I stummbled across in 94'...when two "normal" looking boas from this line were bred to each other in 97,it resulted in half the litter expressing not only aberrant/partially striped pattern anomolies, but also had an extreme effect on the pigmentation/coloration....through breeding these expressive individuals,I've found that both aspects of their appearence are directly tied to the bloodline itself,(as opposed to just the expressive examples alone.)it is non-recessive in transmissive nature,(meaning it manifests itself in the first generation.) I am currently convinced that the anomolies associated with this bloodline represent an "incomplete dominant" mutation that can also produce a "super",(or,homozygous) form....So,all three of the bloodlines, have an affect on pattern & coloration, however the simplest way to answer your question would be to say that genetic transmission, and resulting outcome are the most obvious differences in the three....hope this helps!....Tim...

So basically, with all the different variation in patterns that each specific line within the line(harlequins, stripes, and jungles) show, the only true way to look at an abberant animal and know which one of the three it is would be is to know what the parents are, or from what the breeder of the animal says???

Has anyone done any breedings with "normal" offspring from a jungle litter, to see if there offspring will produce jungles??? Or done a breeding of jungle to harlequin to see what babies would show up??

Yup...this is why some people immediately began offering all kinds of aberrant animals as "jungles",that were not from that proven bloodline. I know of at least one person that bought a "jungle",that was actually from the recessive striped line...as far as breeding "normals" from the Jungle bloodline,yes...I know of two separate instances where animals were sold as "normals",and later produced expressive offspring in the subsequent litters when bred.(my personal opinion in these cases,is that the animals in question were "lesser expressive" jungles that were simply mistaken as normals when the litter(s) were graded.)...as for test breeding Jungle & Harlequin animals...as far as I know,it has not yet been done...I don't own any Jungles at this point, but I know several people that do,that also own Harlequin line animals,so I'm sure it's just a matter of time. I'm very curious to see what would come from it...I still contend that Harlequins are not related to Jungles, but combining the two lines might produce something we haven't seen yet?...I have been working with the Harlequin bloodline since 97,and it is amazingly variable! personally I don't think we've even seen a small fraction of what it can do,and I still look forward to every litter!
