just how hot does flexwatt get if you just plug it in?

It gets fairly hot, too hot for reptiles. They warn you to keep it under 95 degrees and urge you to use a rheostat or thermostat, so that must tell you something. If some sort of control is not used it will bake your animal and eventually burn out.

I have tried just plugging it in and seeing how hot it gets.. I got it up to about 115 when I unplugged it. now I keep it on a rheostat at about half way turned up it stays at 92

i heard the max was 120, i tried to get it up there to help warm up some rodents, i did have it hooked to a johnson thermostat, but it only got up to 105.

I think it also depends on the width. If I am not mistaken, the 3" and 4" strips get hotter than the 11".

I also believe that it depends on length as well...the longer, the cooler.
