Opinions wanted - please read!

Hey folks...we're about to do a MAJOR overhaul to the NERD site, and will take the opportunity to streamline the forums as well.

Any suggestions on what could stay, go, move or otherwise change would be GREATLY appreciated!

i think pictures of the inside of your guys breeding facility would cool i have only seen 1 picture of kevins PVC cages and i think it would be cool to see what kind of caging and racks you guys at NERD are using

Photo galleries would be cool for people who would like to put pics of their herps (and other things) onto the site without having to worry about people not seeing them after some time. (Being bumped down untill you can't see the thread anymore) Also, a PetCo/PETsMART board would be cool! If you had a bad experience with them, or if your local store is rather good, you could post it there. (Just a random idea...)

I agree with the photo forum, for the average user the current way of posting can be confusing. I also think there should be more restricted access to crow's den, more adult theme (18+),anything goes! A chatroom would be great, with maybe a monthly chat with you and/or Kevin or another knowledgeable NERD employee. The few times that you two appear on kingsnakes chats are a blast and very infomative, and when Kevin is funny he is really funny. Maybe even a weekly or monthly update section on what is going on with NERD. If I think of anything else I will post again.

OK so far...

Chat room is a definite!

Bio's on the NERD gang will be on the new website...

"NERD News" forum will be added shortly...

There will definitely be a facility tour/photo gallery of NERD on the new site...

User photo galleries are up in the air at this point, but something I'm very willing to consider. Maybe make it for active users - i.e. those who have a consistent post count of however much activity over extended periods of time.

Pet store board isn't really the focus of this site - there are plenty of sites on the net for posting good/bad experiences with retail locations.

Keep the ideas comin' folks - this really helps out a LOT!!! :)

Hey Kara-- I always thought it would be cool to have a bp "family tree" to show what makes what. I know most people on the forum are familiar w/ morph combinations, but it can get pretty confusing the further you go. I'm not sure how time consuming that would be...

Even more so it would be cool to have a "picture of the month/week" but maybe that's more of a forum feature. Just a thought.

Making it easier for new posts to be seen would be a huge request. Ive seen several unanswered questions that were buried at the bottom of a list on a subtopic.

Also disscussions a user is envolved in would pop up on there opening page or something, would be helpful to see if someone responded you yet.

It also seems like there are lot of restrictions i was gonna message someone and it didnt let me, dont know what i was doing wrong.

There are so many topics/threads everywhere and it seems so hard to look and view them all.

There's a "new posts" link in the top toolbar - clicking that will bring up new posts. If you want to see if people have responded specifically to threads that you're participating in, go to "thread tools" within the thread and subscribe to that thread. You can then check subscriptions via your user CP or just have posts e-mailed directly to you.

See above note about subscriptions. vBulletin software has enough great features that I don't forsee adding too many modifications or hacks to it.

Please read the rules & regulations forum to familiarize yourself with the lay of the land here. New users have account restrictions to cut down on the # of trolls & troublemakers that inevitably show up on message boards from time to time. It's all perfectly explained in that forum, which is why it's there.


There are so many topics/threads everywhere and it seems so hard to look and view them all.

Once you become familiar with the message board layout & tools available to you as a user, I think you'll find the format here pretty simple. After that, it's all up to you & the amount of spare time on your hands.

Spare time is easy to come by (working at a small airport waiting on jets to come in, this is a wonderful site for me) and i have read all the rules of the road and all the other threads in that area. Dont know what the crows nest/den whatever is though? Also how to you become able to PM other users? Thanks and the site is very nice as i said just gotta figure out all the little things.

Ummm, I have a little 'edit' button in my posts. I'm guessing that would be an easy way to edit posts. anyways, you can preview your post before posting it to find those mis-spellings. ;)
