View Full Version : Borneo Bateater Question
When breeding Borneo Bateaters, does it make a difference which snake (Burm or Retic) is the father and which is the mother? I know with, say, lion x tiger crosses, which is the sire and which is the dam makes a huge difference -- one produces a tigon, the other produces the infamous liger, ;) and they are very different creatures.
Just curious.

It maybe easier to do a male Retic to a female Burmese, because female retics sometimes could be harder than burmese to get pregnant.
just a thought!

Yes, Kitt but you used a complicated example a liger is bred for there skills and magic :smt023
Its my experience twice ive tried that a female retic that is mature will just beat the living snot out of a male burmese when introduced. Also I find some male burms to be lazy easily discouraged breeders where ive hade male retics who would attempt to mate their food if given the chance
Yeah . . . It seems like every bateater breeding -- or even attempted breeding -- that I have heard about has been a male Retic to a female Burm. I never knew why, though . . .
Some day I hope to perhaps breed my female Burm to a male Supertiger . . . Some day FAR, FAR in the future. And of course that's assuming she really is female...
Has anyone successfully produced a Bateater from a female retic?
Female Burms are SLUTTY! :) They're a lot more likely to let a male (esp. a persistant male like a want-to-breed-now! retic) breed them. Female retics are good at bucking males off when they don't want to put out. :smt016

For the Liger vs. Tigon. A Liger which is a male lion to a female tiger is differant due to the growth inhibitor gene. In lions this is in the female, and in tigers it is in the male. By useing male lion to female tiger, both of which do not have this gene you get an animal whose growth is not limited, result are a 1000 lb. 12ft tall (on hind legs) cat, that due to enormous proportions has an unfortunately short life span. Meanwhile ligers are small.
Thanks, Chris! I never knew that! (I knew they were different, but I didn't know why...) :smt023
