i am wondering if anyone uses sphagnum moss with there retics to keep humidity up.
i have my tiger retic in a 4 foot vision cage and with the forced hot air in my house my humidity levels in the cage are real low. i do mist the cage but i have to do it like 20 times a day. im wondering if i use a good size rubbermaid in the cage with moist moss in it and no lid if it would be ok. do i have to worry about mites or mold.

We do that for bloods and brazilians, no reason it will not work for a retic. Mold would be the big thing to keep an eye out for, but that usually only happens when the moss is to old. :smt023

THANKYOU i keep my cages very clean and would change and rinse the moss regularly. my only concern would be mites.

I used to flip a decent sized rubbermaid over and put sphagnum moss in it. It worked very well for my large female blood. I haven't done it w/ my retics because I have them in a heat and humidity controlled room now. It's a quick and good fix for humidity control in my opinion.

cypress mulch is about the best for tics. it doesnt mold and is easily cleaned. spagnum would mold very quickly and i.m.o, be a pain in the ass with a BIG retic.
