Anybody starting yet? Anybody have any tips? I haven't gone field herping around here and was wondering when a good time to start might be? It's been pretty warm so I thought maybe some snake species might be stretching out their scales and leaving their dens. Anybody have an idea? I found a spotted salamander in my yard today, so I am hopeful. -Joe D.

We found some frog eggs...
Does that count?

LOL -- Tammy, I heard peepers RIGHT outside of NERD/Zoo on Saturday. I was so excited. First peepers of the season that I'd heard!

An' I think frogs count!! ;) ;) (not sure about the eggs...)

Well, if there's any out they probably went back in today! Snow in April...not supposed to happen. LOL. For the herps around here, (Ok, I know, I'm in RI, but the area your looking for isn;t too far away) I've seen some frogs, and I've also seen garter snakes. I'm not very sure about any other species...but you can always find out somewhere. Try doing a google search for "native new england reptiles" and you might get something. If not google, then I'm sure someone here can help.

caught my first garter snake of the season over the weekend. i was in CT. and was hoping to spot some timber rattlers or copperheads for some nice pictures but all i found was a baby garter. oh well at least it was a snake.

Nothing yet..just salamanders... And the snow today didnt help much either....but once the season starts, i usually find Garter snakes, Ribbon snakes, brown(dekay's) snakes, Eastern milk snakes and northern water snakes.
