I've been researching tortoises alot, thinking I might buy one. I have a full time job, so my life really doesn't present alot of time for taking care of full time animals like dogs and cats. Although 20 minutes a day is more than doable.

As far as my research goes I cannot get a straight answer on how much they generally need to be fed. I'm asuming once a day? Correct me if I'm wrong. These appeal to me in that they eat vegetables and I don't have to go to the petstore for crickets every day.

I see alot of pictures of HUGE tortoises, is there a breed that I can keep in a 55 gallon tank at full grown?

What do you all think? Does a tortoise sound like somthing I can work into my daily schedule? If so, what's a good breed to start with? Thanks

Redfoots are good starters.

redfoots are expensive and get quite large...for a 55.a russian would be less expensive and doesnt get quite as large.russian are also easier to maintain heat and humidity wise.

I would go with a Russian as well. Redfoots are great, but not in a 55 galon aquarium. Do you have a yard? Torts do best outdoors.
There is the Egyptian as well, but htose are quite pricey. How much mula do you plan on spending??
