how bad is it that you are willing to take the chance of getting the dogs sick if they screw up and bite Andy or B and not the suit?

Training pit bulls to attack people...hmmm. Not real smart if you ask me. My neighbor lost his arm when 2 pit bulls attacked him. The police shot one while the two dogs were ripping this guy to shreds, they nearly killed the guy. It was winter so it was easy to see all the blood on the snow.
My wife was attacked by a pit bull and that dog had bitten someone the day before. She IDed him at the city pound....bye bye bad doggie.
This is a dog that has been selective bred for fighting.
Pit bulls suck. Thats my opinion. Don't like it? Too bad. Go buy a real dog.

Obviously you have no idea what you are talking about.
I suggest you read up a bit about Schutzhund, and then come back to apologize for comparing a pit bull that was most likely owned by some assclown that thought he was cool because he had a monster (that he couldn't control), to these incredibly trained, obidient and purposeful dogs.

Pit bulls, descendants of the bulldogs used in the nineteenth century for bull baiting and dogfighting, have been bred for “gameness,” and thus a lowered inhibition to aggression. Most dogs fight as a last resort, when staring and growling fail. A pit bull is willing to fight with little or no provocation. Pit bulls seem to have a high tolerance for pain, making it possible for them to fight to the point of exhaustion. Whereas guard dogs like German shepherds usually attempt to restrain those they perceive to be threats by biting and holding, pit bulls try to inflict the maximum amount of damage on an opponent. They bite, hold, shake, and tear. They don’t growl or assume an aggressive facial expression as warning. They just attack. “They are often insensitive to behaviors that usually stop aggression,” one scientific review of the breed states. “For example, dogs not bred for fighting usually display defeat in combat by rolling over and exposing a light underside. On several occasions, pit bulls have been reported to disembowel dogs offering this signal of submission.” In epidemiological studies of dog bites, the pit bull is overrepresented among dogs known to have seriously injured or killed human beings, and, as a result, pit bulls have been banned or restricted in several Western European countries, China, and numerous cities and municipalities across North America. Pit bulls are dangerous.
If I have offended anyone I am sorry. Pit bulls SUCK!

The "assclown" was not at home, the dogs jumped the fence.
Can we talk about Ball pythons now? This is not a dog forum.

Actually, this is our "News" forum, and the protection dog event was hosted at our retail store. This thread was initially announcing that event. Funny how you want to throw YOUR $.02 in, but want to change the subject when anyone else posts theirs...
Just sayin'. ;)
Look at the muscles in the second pic, that is impressive. And Dave, that sounds like a copy past explanation that you might try to use to make yourself sound smart, but at the same time making you look stupid. Why are you coming here and causing problems? I like the idea to train them to be guard dogs instead of just putting them down.
BTW, the second dog is an American Bulldog, not a Pit.
Just FYI.
Dave,
You have an opinion about pit bulls based on the bad experiences you've had with them. Other people have opinions about pit bulls based on the good experiences they've had with these dogs.
I think either side trying to force an opinion down the other one's throat is pretty unproductive, as is expecting everyone to change their opinion or not state theirs, ONLY because you've stated yours based on negative experience. I guess I don't understand why someone would post a vehement opinion and then get offended when other people post their opinions just as strongly, simply because they differ.
I've met some great pits, as well as some not-so-great pits. Just like any other breed, selective breeding, early socialization & diligent training by a sensitive handler goes a long way in making a good dog vs. a bad dog. I'm sorry that you've had such a negative experience with them in the past...that sucks!
Just my $.02...

Dave, If your comment was in regards to what I said, I was misunderstood.
I had no intention to suggest that pit bulls are good (or bad) dogs. Just pointing out the HUGE differences between an unexperienced guy with a pit bull, and a well trained one.
The dog trainer mentioned above isn't "Training pit bulls to attack people".

First of all The dogs aren't trained to mindlessly attack people. They are being trained to work.
Maybe you should inquire about what the dogs are being used for before slinging around insults and accusations!
A shot visit to wikipedia will reveal:
"Schutzhund is a dog sport that was developed in Germany in the early 1900s to test whether German Shepherd Dogs (GSD) act and perform in the manner that the breed was intended, rather than simply evaluating a dog's appearance. Today, many breeds other than GSDs can compete in Schutzhund, but it is a demanding test for any dog and few of them can pass this kind of test."
"before a dog can compete for a SchH1, he must pass a temperament test called a B or BH (Begleithundprüfung which translates as "traffic-sure companion dog test"). The B tests basic obedience, sureness around strange people, strange dogs, traffic, and loud noises. A dog that exhibits excessive fear or aggression cannot pass the B and so cannot go on to schutzhund."
"Modern Schutzhund consists of three phases: tracking, obedience, and protection. A dog must pass all three phases in one trial to be awarded a schutzhund title. Each phase is judged on a 100-point scale. The minimum passing score is 70. At any time the judge may dismiss a dog for showing poor temperament, including fear or aggression."
Hope that cleared up a few things for you. Biting is only one of the things these dogs are trained to do, and they do it in a very controlled manner. When the dogs are turned on and told to guard, they REALLY want to bite but they absolutely will not until the handler tells them to or the person makes an offensive move and as soon as the handler decides that they want the dog to stop, the dog stops. Period. That's actually quite impressive to see. These dogs are amazing.
Just because idiots can go out and get dogs and handle them irresponsibly doesn't mean the dogs suck...it means that idiots suck. Do you think all hispanic people suck because one stole your car?? C'mon now...
You need to think about redirecting your hostility.
Thanks

"The "assclown" was not at home, the dogs jumped the fence."
In my book, a person that owns a pit bull that will jump the fence and attack people - is an assclown. Just like any other person who owns a potentially dangerous animal, and can't keep others safe from it.
"idiots suck"
I'll second that!
Pit bulls are illegal in Israel thanks to such idiots... :newnono:
Dave,
You are right on a couple things but so horribly wrong on others it is laughable.
Yes pitbulls were used for dog fighting. Yes they have a high pain tolerance. Why do they have a high pain tolerance?? Because people made them that way so they would be good at dog fighting.
PEOPLE made them have a high pain tolerance.
PEOPLE made pitbulls dog aggressive. Aggression towards dogs was a "desirable" trait so we kept breeding dogs that didn't like other dogs.
Originally pitbulls did not have human aggression. People are in the pit with the dogs during the fight. It would not make sense to have a dog that would turn around and bite the hell out of one of the people in the pit during the fight. Idiot assholes bred human aggression into pitbulls. Backyard breeders that either wanted a dog that would attack people or didn't care what the dog was like and just wanted puppies to sell are responsible for putting that lovely trait into some of the dogs around
PEOPLE are responsible for human aggression in pitbulls.
PEOPLE(the owners) are responsible for having a dog that would attack your neighbor or your wife.
PEOPLE(the owners) are responsible for having a fence that isn't tall enough.
PEOPLE(the owners) are responsible for leaving the dogs in the yard when they are not home.
Not all dogs are great. That doesn't mean the whole breed of dog sucks. That means that either the owners of the dog sucked, the breeders of that dog sucked, or just that dog sucked. Not the whole breed.
Look at how many people were killed in the last ten years by pitbulls.
Then look at how many people were killed in the last ten years by horses.
Then look at how many people were killed in the last ten years by people.
How many people were killed in the last ten years over money? How many people were killed in the last ten years because they simply thought something different. How many people were killed in the last ten years in the name of god?
People suck. Not pitbulls, not dogs, not reptiles, not snakes, not spiders, not bears, not tigers, people.
Anything involving pitbulls will be sensationalized in the media.
Its sad, and unfortunately the reason it will be sensationalized is because of people like you.
Now, that all said. Whats better, a dog that can and will protect you and your family when you tell it to? Or a dog that will protect your family without regard to what you think because it didnt like the body language the person walking towards you was giving.
Lets ban pitbulls and then right after we can go after reptiles, I heard they bite people too.

Yea took the words right out of my mouth.... . I dont even think i have anything to say, you pretty much said it all. But did you know that the number one animal killer of people in america is the white-tailed deer. Why should we worry about pits when we have bambie to deal with.

well, i gotta say that there are good pits and bad pits. AND, there are good chihuahuas and bad chihuahuas! it all depends on the line of dog and HOW YOU RAISE IT!!! if you reward aggressive behavior, you can make a golden retriever aggressive. so lay off the pits, dude!:pokestick

Nice dogs. :) I do love a well-trained dog. I had Akitas and they were known to become so powerful as adults that training was a MUST as a puppy.
It is sad that so many people love the idea of a dog that is aggressive. Aggressiveness for it's own sake serves no purpose.
