I am thinking about building a large pond in my basement. What materials should i use to build it and what about the filter ?
sam as you would build an outdoor pond but beware whatever you do of the humidity facto so you dont rout out you floor beams. i.e. waterfalls, steamers, or fountains.

A friend of mine built a frame about two and half feet high and 6' by 6' out of 2x4's. He then used a pond liner and stretched it out around the 2x4's. He then covered the top of the 2x4's with rocks and used silicone on the rocks to keep them in place. Once you put the water in the sides just look black and you can't tell that it's a pond liner. It's pretty durable as we have 2 Crocs in this enclosure.
Be careful if you build a wood frame made out of pressure treated lumber as the chemicals will shorten the life of the liner if allowed contact. If I were to do one I would probably use cinder blocks and build a nice trough. Allow for a section to accept a skimmer box ( would be best to anchor it on 3 sides) and perhaps an upflow filter...UV in line might be helpful as well.
http://www.aquascapedesigns.com/ makes the most affordable pond products, plus they really work!
