Let's start at the beginning... I got these Gilleni right before the Tinley show from Joe Lewis at Rare Earth... They did NOTHING for the rest of that season... I held my head in shame and changed the temps and light cycles... Recently I brought everything back up... Two days ago I saw what looked like the end of copulation... Yesterday the female was VERY blatantly ovulating... Today I walk in the reptile room, what immediately catches my eye, is the two of them breeding away in their "cork bark tunnel of love"... I just KNOW she will prove to be gravid and she will continue to produce clutch after clutch for the rest of their season...

My march toward the throne of The Lizard King continues...

Love and Light,
Grant Colantonio

KEVIN!!! I need materials for an egg box!

Thanks man... I'm really excited, breeding veileds and panthers was one thing, this actually seems like something to be proud of... I may be getting a four year old pair of captive bred Jayapura Crocs... I hope to have the same success with them...

I have some pics I took when I was contemplating trading them (still might, just gonna wait a little bit!)... I can upload them somewhere and post them soon...

As an update, I turned their lights on today and immediately when I did, they came out of their burrow and went at it again! They stayed locked up all day, only stopping to change positions...

I have my Vermiculite mixture ready, as well as my trusty hova... lol... They would have to be REALLY bad ass Retics, If I were to sacrifice the kind of money I'd make on the season's babies... :smt025

How have you been? It's been a while... Congrats on all the success you have been having, good luck with your stressful incubation wait... Will you be at Kevin's show that's coming up?

Here are some pics of my Gilleni... This was right before I changed the seasons... If they're still breeding in a few days I'll try and get some Mulga porn for everyone...

Here are some shots of the male, if you look closely you can see the female hiding in their burrow underneath... I wish the focus didn't go out on the first one...

I hate disturbing them but I wanted a good shot of the female, this was the best I got... The male is on the left, the female is on the right...

The female is dead.......

I walked in the reptile room and a putrid smell was in the air... I saw that the Crocs didn't finish their dinner from the night before, so I figured it was simply that... I went to check on the Gilleni and the female was in the weirdest state I have EVER seen a dead animal in... Almost impossible looking... It looks like her entire insides have been vaporized... No eggs visible or palpable, so that rules out one idea... Anyone have any clue why this may have happened? Kevin? Chris?

I'll keep her in the fridge as long as I can, just in case someone may be able to take a look and tell me what they think based on appearance... If my description doesn't get an immediate idea in anyone's head... I remember Kara telling someone whose snake died to do the same...

This sucks, I don't believe that THIS is the next post I make in regards to the Gilleni...

Peace,
Grant

PS, Prior to her death she was almost exclusively under the basking light, she was directing different parts of her stomach toward the light, like snakes do when gravid... She was fine yesterday, I tried feeding her and she wasn't interested, yet she looked 100% normal... She seemed a bit less timid and actually let my hand approach her, I picked her up and she just simply felt more calm than usual... Nothing to cause concern, pregnancy makes ALL beings act a little "off"... Meh, that is all.........

Man that sucks Grant sorry for such the bad news.....It sucks I know............Id have a vet take an educated guess. To me it sounds like kidney blow out but did was there any funny fluid in the stomach cavity?Dude, her ENTIRE insides were "funny fluid", it was the weirdest thing I have ever seen... It looks like some alien did some crazy radiation thing on her like she was a crop circle... That obviously didn't happen but I don't know what the *$&% is going on... Her skin was very thin and water balloon like, the entire insides were liquid... The only substance other than liquid were her bones... My other guess was, maybe her ovulation or whatever was happening at the time of her death had raised her body temp and she somehow fried... However, I know that the cage always has an ambient 85 degrees, on the right side of the cage it is between 84 and 87, on the other side it is between 90-96, under the basking spot gets to about 105... If they go down into their burrow they can cool down another 5-8 degrees depending on where they go... The male was also 100% fine and dandy, so... Who knows... I'm waiting to see what Kevin or Chris have experienced... I'm also going to either bring her up to NERD or to my vet...
