Im going to be moving my ball in to a new tank soon and would love to hear some opinions on how to set up a good heat system for it. The tank is a size 40 breeder 36x18x16. There is a complication though, I live in a drafty house and in the winter it gets really cold, probably around 50 degrees F. I heard that pro-products make really good heat panels, but was interested in finding out what other people think I should invest in. I realize that the screen top lets out alot of heat and know i will probably have to construct a better suited top for my tank as well.
Thank you ahead for your time in reading and replying.

well.. for my ball pythons i use those glad plastic rack things. they work well. keep heat, ventilated. if you want to keep the 40 breeder and use 1 of those, those work really well! how big is your bp, i think ive heard they sometimes get overwhelmed with such a big tank and no cover. i may not know though, im just a kid..

Well as I've been thinking about it I believe that I'm going to try to find better tank option than the breeder, my house is just too drafty. I'll probably go with something like a vision cage or something.
As for my bp its about 4 feet now and still growing, love rats.
thanks for the input

I have mine in 40 gal breeder and though it was a pain to get setup at first. It works pretty well now. Keeps humidity and heat in pretty constantly. However I'm positive it would have been easier with a rubbermaid or Vision or the like. Also definately cant beat the price of rubbermaids. :D

I really like my AP setup. The belly heat is great and the cage hold heat and humidity really well.

You are going to run into heating problems regardless of caging at a 50F ambient temperature. The vision cage or glass aquarium have a lot of surface area needing heat. That being said, the radient heat panels will be your best choice. Talk to Bob Pounds, Pro-Products and let him know your temp issues. He is very good at what he does. You will need a good thermostat as well. It is possible that you will need an undertank heater as well. Don't forget that good proportional thermostat. Cool temps inhaled by snakes will draw them to sit in a basking site that if too hot will burn them even though they think they are cold.
I rescued lots of snake "sausages " who were subject to 3-4th degree burns. Yes 4th degree....bone can burn! :smt010

Thanks for the advice, I did talk to Bob yesterday, about my setup. He told me I'd be better off going with anything like a vision, something that keeps the moist air in. So there are 2 shows in my area in the next 2 week, so I'm going to look and see what they have and then hopefully give Bob a call back and order a panel.

I HAVE A BALL PYTHON 1YR OLD 38 INCHES LONG AND A HOG/REDTAIL BOA
BOTH HAVE NEVER BEEN IN A TANK. BOTH LIVE IN A ROOM A BIG ROOM.
NEVER HAD ANY TROUBLE. IN THIS ROOM I HAVE 3 HIDE BOXES 2 HEATED
THERES MANY PLACES TO HIDE. I HAVE BIG ROCKS SMALL ROCKS FOR THEM TO COOL DOWN. I HAVE A ROOM HEATER THAT COMES ON IF THE ROOM GETS UNDER 75 AND IT HAS 3 WATER BOWLS AND ONE LARGE POOL OF WATER 2 FEET BY 3 FEET WITH ROCKS IN IT ...I FIND IT FUNNY THAT PEOPLE SAY SNAKES DONT LIKE LARGE SPACES...MY 2 SNAKES LOVE IT...

... BOTH LIVE IN A ROOM A BIG ROOM.
So they both live in this room, a big room... together... interacting? See, boas will eat BPs. Obviously hasnt happened yet, and it probably doesnt happen often, but it can. Why take the risk?
Oh and typing in all capital letters is considered yelling and no one likes yelling, :)
