My girlfriend just lost her male dwarf hampster. He was running around in one of those little plastic balls, and hit something hard enough to split the ball in half. He pulled a disappearing act shortly there after. Anyone have any suggestions on how to find him? And how long should I wait before I make her give him up as a lost cause?

you can get a no kill trap and bait him in

Many years back we had a similar situation...ended up finding the little squirt nearly a month later in our basement floor drain.

I've now got half a dozen traps around the house to try to bait it out. If I don't find it in the next week, I'm going to consider it dead.

I doubt if it is dead. put it's cage on the floor, it may return to it's cage to crash out. (well that worked with a hamster I had years ago) remember they're nocturnal.
