Ok I have a new BP. I took him to the vet 2 weeks ago for his 1st checkup after he shed for almost 2 weeks. He says he looks awosme and my tank setup is perfect. But he had some pink on his belly and we wanted me to keep an eye on it for a week, if it didn't go away to call him. He wasn't sure if it was the early signs of scale rot, left over from his long 1st shed under my care, or if it was from his home in the pet store, which wasn't the best and one of the reasons i had to get him. Well we got hit with that blizzard last week and I guess the poor guy got snowed in and couldn't make it to the office and i havn't talked to him yet. The pink faded a little but didn't go away so I started looking up teatments for scale rot to play it safe and every one seems to say to put antibiodic cream aka neosporin on their belly. Well I put it on once a day for 3 days now and the pinks seems to be fading more and more. But i noticed last night hes starting to shead off a few scales. Not a lot but a few end up peeling off when u hold him. They are very thin and clear, like a piece of scotch tape almost. With the holiday and a long weekend i'm a bit worried about another few days befor I can fianlly get ahold of my vet. I stoped putting neosporin on him a day or so ago also. He has a fresh cleaned cage and is very active when you hold him, in very good temper and he feed this week just fine. Any ideas or suggestions to get me threw the weekned? and yes i did not use the medicated antibidic cream, just the standered stuff.

Could it be a retained shed? Dose he still look kind of dull? The scotch tape thing reminds me of a burm that I got from this guy that didn't have a clue. He kept her on sand with out water for months. I kind of felt obligated to save this poor thing. When I got the snake home I noticed the same kind of scotch tape belly scales in the bag. Upon further inspection there was even more shed comming off of her head. I putt her in a large sterilite half full of water over night. The next morning when I pulled her out, she had two more sheds that my wife and I rolled off of her. It was kind of trippy to pull a shed out of a shed.
I'm probably WAY OFF, but it was the scotch tape type thing that caught my attention. Good luck!

yah sounds exatly like me. The setup wasn't very good so I had to get this awsome little guy outta there. After 2 days he went into a 2 week very rough shed where i had to soak him several times befor he shed with a litle help from me on the end of his tail. Now the scales are very thin like it is a shed almost, but i am not sure what to look for, can you give any pointers or post any pics as ot how to tell if its a old shed that is now coming off that he has a happy home?

Unfortunatly I don't have any pics. This happened over ten years ago, before I had any idea how useful they could be. As far as telling if it is a retained shed; you should be able to see in a spot or two where it starting to come off. If so, go ahead and soak him. However, with out being able to see the animal up close I don't want to tell you to soak, and have it turn out that you have the opposite problem. i.e. scale rot.
I think the vet is your best bet, unless there is a herper around where you live. Sorry, I can't be of more help...
