Try not to laugh out loud, but I am allowed (by my wife :newredfa: ) exactly one terrarium for snakes. It is 36"x18"x17". And I have 3-y-o ball python happily residing in there now. But the truth is that I'd love to have a gorgeous blood python.
So I have 2 questions.
1. Could I just throw a baby blood in there with the ball so they could live in eternal harmony?
2. If the answer to #1 is "No, Stupid!", would that cage be big enough for a full-grown blood living in there by her/him-self? I could always unload the ball on my local pet store. Maybe some variants of blood pythons are small enough as adults for such a home??
1. "No, Stupid!" (hey, you said it first!) If you absolutely have to keep 2 snakes in one cage, they should at least be the same species. Personally I don't agree with keeping more than one snake per enclosure unless they're breeding. Furthermore, no snake should just be "thrown into" an type of enclosure. Each enclosure should be carefully & thoughtfully planned to meet the precise requirements of the inhabitant.
2. And most adult bloods need a minimum of 4'L x 2'W x 18"H for a permanent enclosure.
3. You're whipped.

I'd really prefer that you have a talk with your wife about getting a proper home for another snake, rather than just unloading your old, boring ball python on the petstore. Since you just have one snake, I'm assuming its a pet, and I think its sad that you'd want to "upgrade" your pet just like you would an old car.
Also, your current habitat is not suitable for a baby blood, which are generally spooky little things that prefer tight spaces, or an adult. So even if you did decide to upgrade, then you would need temporary caging for the baby, and then upgrade your terrarium to a suitable habitat for an adult when the time comes.

OK, K~,
How about a smaller variant, say one of the short-tailed pythons?
Stupid
Don't get a snake to fit the cage. Get a cage to fit the snake. I suppose you could get away with that enclosure size if you went with a male Sumatran short-tail - and preferably the orange-headed variety as they stay fairly small - but even then you may need to upgrade eventually.
Is there any way you & your wife can come to an agreement on the more-than-one-snake thing? She's a woman - certainly she'll figure out sooner or later that she'll get something out of the deal.

Take my advice...something shiny for something snakey!
After reading the above posts I am greatful I live with an animal loving wife. Of course, I keep her happy with girly things to appease her when I go off and buy another herp.
