well i rencently got a snake from a local pet store ( i couldnt resist). i brought it home and now i think it has mites. it has like a raised scale towards the end of the tail. how should i go about getting rid of them? i heard about this spray from equate called "bedding spray" and supposedly it works just as well as prevent a mite. also how long until i can take it out of its cage because its still a juvenille snake but its pretty big (around 16 inches).

The best way to rid yourself of most of the mites, if not all, is frequent, thorough cleaning! Give the snake a bath at least once a week(about how long it takes mites to hatch or grow into bloodsuckers) & clean the cage very well while you let him soak. When you take him out of the water, let him crawl through a towel in your hands to rid him of any mites not attatched. With this, and maybe some provent-a-mite/equate, you should be rid of them fairly quickly.

Also make sure this snake isn't even in the same vacinity as any others you might have, mites can travel something like up to 40 feet a day!
