This is a sad post, but man, with the snow, and now this, this has been a depressing day...

I turn on my computer and Yahoo rudely informs me that Hunter S. Thompson committed suicide last night. Add that to a cold, snowy, bleak February day...

Was anyone else on here into the Original Gonzo Journalist?

Sorry if I'm bumming anyone out; today has just not been my day.

:085: RIP Hunter :085:

Yeah, it is sad.

The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over.
Hunter S. Thompson

The latest is that he wanted his ashes to be shot out of a cannon at his funeral.
LOL
He will be missed for sure.
We can only be thankful that he shared with us as much as he did.

I heard this from my friends last night:

...Most likely he'd been planning his suicide for a long time. His health was failing and he wanted to go out "with a bang," so to speak... not die in a hospital bed.

Evidently he'd visited his family for awhile before hand.

I also heard that he'd been working on a new concept: shotgun golf. :009:

Yeah, that news is actually now coming directly from the family. They gave the first official public statement recently. He really spent the last week or so spending "quality time" with his whole family.

He just wanted to go out on his own terms. He used to say that he feared being "elderly".

Hmm... shotgun golf? Finally I might be able to call myself a golfer.

"Shotgun golf," that's what my friend said. Evidently it went something to the effect of normal golf, only you get to try and throw off your oppontent's strikes by shooting at the ball with a shotgun. Apparently he called up Bill Murrey at about three AM to tell him about it.
