Some of you may have noticed my post about my Double Ranco unit failure. I've been using my back-up units (extra proportionals that I normally have on hand for incubators; as I prefer on/off units for my racks).
Well, MG Reptiles (a source that started out good & went totally down the tubes) wasn't an option. And Boaphile, although Jeff offers a quality product & is where I originally got my Ranco... I was hoping to find a better source. My last transaction with Jeff was less than favorable... so, lucky for me Dr. Jay Owens told me about Dennis at D&X Reptiles.
I got a fantastic pre-wired Johnson double unit, at a great price & FAST!!! If you're looking for a great ON/OFF T-Stat at a great price, check him out. He offers wired & unwired units.

That isn't bad at all considering it includes shipping, I might have to get one...or 2 or 3.

So.........I`m thinking about getting thermostats, the thing is that a have to import them from the USA, because here it`s to hard to find, expensive and poor quality.
Why do you prefer On/Off rather than extra proportional?, I thought extra proportionals were better.I use heat lamps for all my snakes, what do you suggest for my to use?
I was thinking in Herpstat Proportional Thermostat ND,even when they are expesive, but I only read about them, what do you recommend for me?
Thanks in advance.

Proportionals are good... they give the most even heat. That's why I use them for my eggs. Things like eggs that need exact temps do best on proportional type T-Stats. But these type can only handle about 500 watts out-put. That's allot less cages/racks. Had to use more units to heat what my on/off was handling.
My Pythons thermoregulate, they can stand a range of temps. So the minor 1-2 degree fluxuations of an on/off unit is no big deal. On/Off units can handle up to 1500 watts output & they use less energy (at least my energy bill shows less). This is why I prefer them for my racks. I do keep my snake room temps around 70F which also helps the unit, but that's helpful no matter what type unit you use.
So what is best for you depends on how much power output you need (how many cages you're heating)... you can do ALLOT with the on/off units. For me, it was the best fit.
Hope this helps- Deb
Thanks, you`re right.
I have found a guy that makes on/off T-Stats. here, and they`re are not expensive, I`ll try those and only import the proportional for the eggs........thanks again .
I purchased a Ranco T-stat pre-wired with a 6 oulet strip from them last year, transaction went smoothly and they shipped a couple hours after I placed my order. When I need to purchase a couple more in the spring I will definitely be going with them again.
