Once the weather gets better I hope to go looking for some easterns. Any experienced field herpers know what type of areas and what time of year is best for finding these snakes? I'm located in North Eastern MA if that helps any. I don't plan on keeping any (unless I'm lucky enough to find a small juvenile that would be easier to get started) but its a goal of mine to find an eastern since a neighbor of mine caught a large female at her work 6 years ago. Yet every time I go looking for them I can never find them (just a bunch of garters, water snakes, and dekay's brown snakes) and I'm hoping this season I can complete this goal.

You need to stick to more rural areas. Old rock walls and under moist dead logs. I caught a few in pelham a couple years ago.

where are the water snakes???

i hear of a den of milks in deep woods of hooksett, nh, but i am not sure where exactly, but you NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER take a snake from the wild. We don't have a lot of snakes in New England to enjoy, so leave them there.

I've seen a few waters in swampy areas in my town, never been able to catch them, they've all already been in the water. Here in MA eastern are suposed to be one of the most common snakes but they are shy and that makes them hard to find I guess. Here in MA you are not aloud to buy easterns even though your a loud to own a max of 2, although its a law that is never enforced and I know people from MA on other fourms that own more than two and actually have been able to find anery and even an amel specimen that they are trying to breed and help make this sub species of milk more popular, so basicly if you want one you have to catch it. Since I can't get my hands on some CB if I find a young one I might try to keep it and try to get it onto domestic mice, if not i will release it where I found it. I know taking snakes from the wild isn' good but this is one of thoses times where theres not much of a choice if you want that species.

you can't find any because people keep taking them. what fun is that, now? just find them, play with them, take pictures, and make a nice little photo album.

just an FYI. I don't support taking and keeping wild herps, so anything you find with me will be released. sorry, but i enjoy field herping, no need to take a wild animal when there are ways of obtaining cbb ones.

I have actually found some brown snakes in Randolph! Out of all places, I was quite shocked I found snakes there-since it has quite a lot of people.
I suspect there is a den close to where my boyfriend lives, even though its right by a main road!

I find them all the time. Actually in my yard and when I go herping. Found a gravid female that laid 20 good eggs. The only reason I kept her was because she had a bad injury.

I released the female and all the babies but two. Unfortunately they didn't make it. I couldn't get them to eat. I tried force feeding them but I think it was too much stress.
