I have a few PE1's and they are very convenient except I kept losing them around here and buying replacements. Well worth the $25 though.

Also have a PE Gun and it works wonderful.....it is a great tool and I even use it to check water temperatures when I give a snake a good soaking! I would recommend it to anyone if they are looking for a good, easy to use yet inexpensive temp gun.

I think legally you shouldnt be able to keep herps without a PE temp gun there just that cool and when you finally start to read temperature it puts everything into perspective for you especially with monitors

I love mine (I own the PE2). It's great, I can check for hot spots or anything like that. It also does wonders for measuring ambient temps, since on some of the snakes, I keep a temp probe directly on the hot spot and check to see how much heat is acutally radiating upward with the temp gun.

Temp Guns are actually Infrared Thermometers. Sort of a "point and shoot" thing. Instant temp reading from whatever you point it at. EXTREMELY useful!! Most would even say indespensible.

They are getting super cheap too. You should totally pick on up !!!

I got a PE1 at home and also use a more expensive temp gun (forget which brand) at work...the cheaper one works just as well. I'm considering buying more just to have them handy.

The only problem with the cheaper temp guns is the accuracy. Even with the cheaper Raytek guns, the accuracy is +/- 3F...so if you are measuring the temp of your hotspot, there is a 6 degree window of what that temp might be! I have Raytek ST-20 and have compared it to the temperature reading given by thermocouples and even it is off a bit.

They're really not kidding on the site when they say that once you buy one, you won't be able to imagine keeping your herps without it.

But everyone's right; they're super easy to lose, especially if you're in college
