The term "calico" is used to describe snakes that are oddly colored with white patches or nearly albino white. As we know, there has never been a baby or juvenile visual calico. It appears to be a condition that the animal acquires once it reaches maturity. The snake may first develop odd patches and gradually change while most seem to suddenly change into a Calico after a single shed. This mutation varies greatly, some Calicos are the gray and yellow variety while the most dramatic ones are white, lavender and yellow. This mutation always appears to be in the process of change and the look of the snake will vary throughout the year. Captive bred offspring from Calico to Calico may appear different at birth, subtle to obvious variations throughout the clutch. We often see these animals with white flecking in the eye which appears to be a common trait from this breeding. This color form of retic seems to be a wild card in the genetic roulette wheel and has aided us to create our "Black Child". At the very least they are dramatic to look at and the first morph that really inspired my path to making an array of python mutations.
